Bali Honeymoon Itinerary: Ubud Retreat and Quiet Coastal Nights
Ten days, two main stays and a final south-coast night: choose the room carefully, then give yourselves time to use it.
An original AI-generated illustration inspired by Bali’s inland retreats. It does not depict a named hotel or a room available to book.
A good Bali honeymoon itinerary leaves time to enjoy the accommodation you have chosen. Four nights in Ubud followed by four on the Candidasa coast creates a useful change of setting without making every other morning a packing exercise. One final night in Jimbaran brings you back south before the flight.
This plan is for couples who value a retreat, a few cultural experiences and slow evenings. Its coast choice is deliberate: compare the actual shore access, pool and room privacy before booking, rather than assuming “beachfront” guarantees the beach holiday you have imagined.

A Bali honeymoon itinerary with nine clear hotel nights
The ten days below are local days in Bali. Day 1 is your arrival day and day 10 is departure; international flight nights are additional. A daytime arrival is the easiest fit for the first drive to Ubud. If you land late, adapt the first night as explained below.
| Days | Stay | The purpose of the stop |
|---|---|---|
| 1–4 | Ubud · 4 nights | Settle into a retreat, enjoy one creative activity and keep a day free. |
| 5–8 | Candidasa/Manggis coast · 4 nights | Choose your pool-and-coast setting, with one nearby cultural outing. |
| 9 | Jimbaran · 1 night | Return towards the airport before the departure day. |
| 10 | Depart | Keep airport timing separate from sightseeing. |

Four nights in each main base mean three full days without moving luggage. The single Jimbaran night is a practical compromise: it adds a check-out, but removes a substantial east-coast drive from your flight day. The room-selection questions below help decide whether that trade-off suits you.
Save your actual dates and nights in the Trip Itinerary Planner. The route here is an editorial suggestion, with no hotel availability or transport reservation implied.
Days 1–4: an Ubud retreat you have time to enjoy
Day 1: arrive, transfer and settle
Book an arrival transfer with the hotel’s precise location. As an editorial allowance, reserve two to three hours of driving after leaving the airport for an outlying Ubud retreat, and ask the property for a current estimate. Immigration and baggage are extra. Keep dinner at or near the accommodation, with no fixed activity dependent on a punctual flight.
Day 2: one cultural experience, then an easy afternoon
Choose an activity that you both want to do. ARMA advertises cooking, craft and music workshops, including a three-hour cooking session and shorter creative sessions. Confirm the current programme and whether you can book privately. [1]
A workshop gives the morning a shape while leaving the afternoon free. If cooking is your preference, compare Ubud cooking classes on GetYourGuide and compare Ubud cooking classes on Viator. Check whether the listed experience includes collection, a market visit and dietary adjustments. These are class searches, not a named private class reservation.
Day 3: protect a completely free day
Have breakfast when you like. Use the pool, read, take a short walk from the property if there is a suitable route, or book a treatment only if you want one. A free day has value when the room and surroundings are a reason you booked the trip.
Day 4: a small outing, with time to pack
Plan a compact museum-and-lunch visit or a guided walk matched to the weather and your fitness. ARMA’s museum holds Balinese, Indonesian and other artwork and provides a useful alternative to an outdoor-heavy morning. [2] Leave the late afternoon open for your retreat, check the next day’s collection time and avoid arranging a distant late-night dinner before the move.
Ubud accommodation is a location decision as much as a room decision. A property outside town may suit a retreat-focused stay if its transfers and dining work for you. If you want to choose a different restaurant every evening, place convenient road access ahead of a dramatic valley photograph.
Days 5–8: quiet coastal nights around Candidasa
Day 5: move east and stay put for the afternoon
Travel after breakfast, then have lunch and settle into the coastal hotel. A current 12Go transfer page lists Ubud–Candidasa journeys around two hours; reserve two to three hours of driving as a planning allowance and confirm the exact hotels. Extra sightseeing requires extra time and a revised price. [3]
Candidasa is a base for eastern Bali’s coastal scenery and cultural places. Choose the specific hotel frontage and room position rather than treating the area name as a guarantee of quiet. [4]
Day 6: pool, coast and no compulsory outing
Make this the day with no alarm, vehicle booking or special dinner package. Before swimming in the sea, ask about the current local conditions and suitable access. An attractive view from a coastal room and a comfortable swimming beach are separate requirements.
Day 7: choose Tenganan or Tirta Gangga
For culture, arrange a respectful visit to Tenganan with a local guide. The village is associated with the Bali Aga community and gringsing double-ikat weaving. Ask permission before photographs, respect private areas and avoid assuming that a ceremony is a visitor performance. [5]
Alternatively, visit Tirta Gangga’s water gardens. The operator describes a complex of ponds, fountains and landscaped levels. Choose this if a garden visit suits you better than a village-focused morning, then return for a late lunch or a quiet afternoon. There is no need to combine both with several distant temples. [6]
Day 8: leave one more day undecided
Keep the final east-coast day as rest time or a replacement for an outing postponed by rain. If you arrange a boat or snorkelling trip, check the operator, conditions, ability requirements and insurance separately; it is not an essential part of this honeymoon plan. Avoid paying for a busy full-day trip simply to fill an empty calendar.
For a concrete accommodation example to research, Alila Manggis is a coastal property in Desa Buitan rather than central Candidasa. Its official current information describes seaside rooms and suites and a programme of cultural and culinary activities. This is a location example, not a claim of personal inspection, adults-only status, a private pool in every room or availability at your dates. [7]
Days 9–10: a calm finish near the airport
Day 9: transfer to Jimbaran before the final evening
Move south in daylight and keep the afternoon flexible. A current Candidasa–Jimbaran transfer listing gives an approximate four-hour journey; this guide allows three to five hours for planning, with the exact route and traffic confirmed by the driver. [8] Leave enough room for a break and check-in without racing to a sunset reservation.
Choose a dinner you can reach easily from the hotel. Jimbaran is known for its coastal dining and location south of the airport, but individual hotel positions vary substantially. A convenient final stay is more useful than adding another elaborate resort experience for one night. [9]
Day 10: depart without a cross-island excursion
Ask the hotel to set the pickup using current traffic and your airline’s airport-arrival requirement. A 30–60-minute drive is an editorial planning allowance for a sensibly located Jimbaran stay, not a maximum. Keep the rest of your time for breakfast, repacking and a nearby meal if your flight is later.
If you strongly dislike a one-night hotel stay and have a suitably late departure, you could remain on the east coast. Compare the longer flight-day drive with the inconvenience of repacking; confirm the route, check-in deadline and disruption buffer before making that choice.
Choose privacy and coast access before paying for extras
Use these practical tests to compare rooms. Give each criterion a personal priority, then ask the property for specific answers. There is no universal honeymoon score: a couple who wants to explore on foot will value a different location from a couple intending to stay in the resort.

| What matters | Question to ask the property | Why the answer changes the choice |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy | Is this exact terrace or pool overlooked by another room, path or public area? | “Private pool” describes use, but does not necessarily describe visibility. |
| Quiet | Where is the room relative to roads, restaurants, events and planned building work? | An area advertised as quiet can contain lively individual locations. |
| Access | How many steps lead from vehicle drop-off to the room, pool and restaurant? | A dramatic hillside setting may be inconvenient for a relaxed stay. |
| Coast | Is there sandy shore access, tidal steps, a seawall or a separate beach shuttle? | A sea view does not tell you how you will spend a beach day. |
| Dining and transport | What are the evening dining choices and the last return shuttle? | A remote retreat needs a workable food and transport plan. |
| Total price | Are taxes, breakfast, transfers and the experiences you want included? | Compare the complete stay, including compulsory charges. |
Search Ubud retreats and hotels on Agoda and compare Candidasa-area accommodation on Agoda. Check Candidasa on Booking.com for a second comparison. These are area searches, so inspect the map pin and exact room name before paying.
The Hotel Comparison Calculator lets you compare quotes with the same dates and currency, including extras you enter. Refundability and room suitability may justify a higher calculated total.
Pay for honeymoon extras because you want them. Confirm the actual inclusions, timing and cancellation rules for a romantic dinner or room arrangement; the word “honeymoon” by itself is not an extra benefit.
Before paying a non-refundable coastal-room supplement, ask the property for the exact room-category photographs and a written explanation of beach entry at the season and tide relevant to your stay. A sea view, beachfront address or private pool does not guarantee sandy swimming access, privacy from neighbouring villas or freedom from nearby building work. The accommodation decision is stronger when you verify those details rather than relying on the area name alone.
What to budget for this ten-day honeymoon
This is an illustrative model for two adults sharing one room, with four Ubud nights, four coastal nights and one Jimbaran night. It represents a comfortable retreat-focused spending plan, not a quote for the example hotel. Assumptions were set on 2 November 2026; replace them with actual room and transfer offers for your dates.
| Cost for the couple | Assumption | IDR |
|---|---|---|
| Ubud accommodation | 4 nights × 2,400,000 | 9,600,000 |
| East-coast accommodation | 4 nights × 1,800,000 | 7,200,000 |
| Final Jimbaran room | 1 night × 1,200,000 | 1,200,000 |
| Food and everyday drinks | 10 days × 600,000 for two | 6,000,000 |
| Main road transfers | Airport/Ubud/coast/Jimbaran/airport allowance | 2,000,000 |
| Local outings and chosen experiences | Couple’s shared allowance | 3,000,000 |
| Bali tourist levy | 2 × 150,000, where payable | 300,000 |
| Subtotal | 29,300,000 | |
| Contingency | 10% | 2,930,000 |
| Total for two | 32,230,000 |
The levy amount is supported by current UK government entry advice; confirm exemptions and the official payment route. [10] Other amounts are modelling choices, with no availability checked. Ensure your room inputs include the taxes and fees that will actually be charged.
If you reduce the room allowance by IDR 500,000 on each of the eight main-stay nights, the total falls by IDR 4.4 million including the same reserve. If you add a special experience costing IDR 2 million for the couple, add IDR 2.2 million with contingency. Choose one priority upgrade before adding several small extras that together consume the same budget.
Divide the rupiah total by your bank’s current IDR-per-£ rate for a sterling equivalent, allowing for conversion charges. The site’s Travel Budget Calculator uses GBP, so convert each input first and enter flights, visas and insurance separately.
When to change the coast, dates or number of nights
Choose Sanur for convenient coastal walking
If your ideal evening is a promenade stroll followed by a choice of restaurants, replace the four Candidasa nights with Sanur. The tourism ministry describes its beachfront pedestrian route. [11] You can then consider keeping the final night in Sanur too, making two stays across nine nights, provided the airport journey suits your departure. This trades the east-coast setting for simpler logistics.
Use seven nights for a shorter honeymoon
With eight local days and seven nights, a three-night Ubud stay followed by four nights in Sanur is simpler than compressing the east-coast route and adding another hotel. Keep at least one fully unbooked day. A short honeymoon benefits more from one less move than from two extra photographed landmarks.
For twelve nights, expand the stays first
Use five nights in Ubud, six on the coast and the final south-coast night. Add an excursion only after deciding how much room time you want. Extra nights improve the same trip without requiring another island.
For a late arrival, change the first hotel night
Stay near the airport on arrival, then spend three nights in Ubud, four on the east coast and one in Jimbaran. The total stays at nine nights, but you lose one Ubud day. If that would feel rushed, extend the holiday or use the simpler Ubud-and-Sanur option.
For wetter months, book a place you enjoy indoors
The tourism ministry gives a broad April–October drier season and November–March wetter season for Bali, while noting regional and year-to-year variation. [12] Rain is a reason to preserve spare days and select comfortable covered spaces. Confirm any holiday or ceremony-related restrictions for your actual dates with your hotels before fixing transfers.
Reserve the important pieces in the right order
- Check your actual arrival time, departure time and nine hotel nights.
- Shortlist the two main stays using room privacy, access and coast questions; compare the final total and cancellation terms.
- Arrange arrival and inter-hotel cars, with written collection details and luggage requirements.
- Choose one cultural experience in Ubud and one east-coast outing. Leave days 3, 6 and 8 free.
- Check current passport, visa and arrival requirements through official sources for your nationality. [10]
For the main eastbound move, compare Ubud–Candidasa cars on 12Go and obtain a quote from your hotel. Ask whether the quoted price covers the whole vehicle, taxes, tolls, waiting time and the exact hotel addresses. For the return south, check Candidasa–Jimbaran transfer options; no option is confirmed until the operator accepts your booking details.
Keep hotel contacts and driver instructions available offline. For mobile data, browse Airalo’s eSIM store and check the Indonesia plan, phone compatibility and activation terms before buying. The link opens the general store rather than a particular package. [13]
Do you need a private pool?
Only if you will use it enough to justify the price. Check overlooking, shade, dimensions and water-temperature expectations. A good shared pool and a comfortable terrace may suit you better than a small plunge pool beside a busy path.
Is Candidasa the right choice for a swimming-beach honeymoon?
Choose it only after checking the exact property’s shore access and current local swimming advice. If continuous sandy beach walks are central to the trip, compare the Sanur variant and individual Jimbaran beachfront hotels instead. “Coastal” and “swimmable from the room” are different booking requirements.
How many excursions should you book?
Start with one substantial experience in each main base. You can add a small outing locally when you know your energy, the weather and how much you enjoy the accommodation. Protecting the free days is a positive choice, not unfinished planning.
Use the Ubud–Candidasa route for an inland retreat followed by slower east-coast nights. Use Ubud–Sanur if convenient walking and fewer transfers are the stronger priorities. In either case, choose the room and location carefully, then give yourselves time to enjoy them.
