Karen Taylor is the founder and editor of Taylor’s Trailblazing Travels, a research-led travel-planning website with country guides covering destinations including Thailand, Japan and Vietnam.
Karen is responsible for editorial direction, topic selection, the standards applied to research and sources, final editing, publication decisions and corrections. Her focus is on helping independent travellers compare routes, accommodation areas, transport, costs and realistic itineraries.
Karen’s editorial role
Every guide is developed around a traveller question. The work may involve comparing official information, reviewing transport connections, examining accommodation-location trade-offs, checking costs and identifying what should be confirmed again close to travel.
- Choose topics that answer a genuine planning need.
- Review official and directly relevant sources.
- Distinguish facts, estimates and editorial judgement.
- Check that routes, figures and comparison criteria are consistent.
- Consider limitations, alternatives and different traveller needs.
- Check that affiliate links are useful and appropriately disclosed.
- Make corrections when reliable new information changes the advice.
Research-led advice and honest experience claims
Karen does not claim to have visited, stayed at or tested a destination or service unless that experience has actually taken place. Research-led planning advice is not presented as first-hand observation. Where there is genuine first-hand experience, an article can describe it accurately and specifically.
