Ubud to Uluwatu: Drivers, Stops and Journey Planning
Choose the right drop-off, leave room for traffic and decide how much sightseeing belongs on moving day.

An Ubud to Uluwatu transfer is easiest to organise once you have the exact hotel entrance and a clear answer to one question: are you simply moving south, or buying a day of sightseeing with the move included? Those require different instructions, luggage arrangements and driver hours.
This guide is for travellers leaving an Ubud accommodation and checking into a hotel on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula. It helps you choose a direct car or an agreed charter, assess a stop at GWK Cultural Park, and decide whether Uluwatu Temple and Kecak fit that evening.

Start with the hotel entrance, then plan the route
Uluwatu Temple is in Pecatu; GWK Cultural Park is in Ungasan. Both are in South Kuta, but a stop at one is not confirmation that you have reached your hotel. [1] [2] Use the full address on the booking and ask the accommodation to send its vehicle entrance pin.
For a hotel described as Pecatu, Padang Padang, Bingin or Ungasan, establish where the car can actually unload. Ask whether reception is beside the road, whether the final approach has steps, and whether a porter or another vehicle is needed. Do the same for your Ubud pickup, especially if the room is away from the vehicle entrance.
Send the driver the hotel name, pin, reception contact and a photograph or description of the meeting point. Ask the receiving hotel to confirm the pin. Agree what happens if the car cannot reach the entrance, including who moves the luggage and any extra charge.

The useful sequence is Ubud checkout, any agreed stop, then the new hotel. Add a separate evening outing only after checking its full timing. A quote ending at Uluwatu Temple leaves you needing another journey to your accommodation.
Choose the driver arrangement that matches the move

| Your priority | Arrangement to request | Confirmation that matters |
|---|---|---|
| Reach the new hotel with minimum coordination | A fixed-price private hotel transfer | Both addresses, vehicle and bag capacity, permitted break and exact final drop-off. |
| Visit one attraction on the way | A private charter with an agreed one-way route | Ubud pickup and Bukit hotel drop-off are both included; specify stops, waiting and maximum hours. |
| Use the same car for the evening performance | A longer charter, or a separately priced local return journey | Hotel luggage drop, performance slot, meeting point afterwards and final hotel arrival. |
| Keep the day entirely flexible | Ask your hotel about a car, or compare a live app request when ready | Actual pickup access and accepted journey; a fare screen alone does not reserve a suitable vehicle. |
You can compare Ubud–Uluwatu taxi options on 12Go with the route-specific Ubud to Uluwatu private hotel transfer on Viator. Enter your date and passenger count, then confirm the addresses and luggage before paying. The 12Go page is specifically for taxis; assess the selected operator’s conditions. [3] [4]
The Viator listing describes hotel pickup and drop-off and advertises space for up to four pieces of luggage. That does not settle the size of those bags or how much room remains with your passengers, child seats or a wheelchair. Send the actual bag count and dimensions. [4]
A sightseeing tour can work only if the operator agrees to start at your Ubud hotel, carry the bags and finish at your new hotel. A published hotel pickup does not establish a different hotel drop-off. For a charter, ask when the chargeable clock starts and ends, whether waiting counts, and how additional hours are rounded. Agree the driver’s breaks as well as the paid hours.
Allow time for the complete hotel move
Indonesia’s tourism ministry gives approximately 1½–2 hours from Ubud to Uluwatu Temple. Treat this as a broad destination benchmark, not a hotel-to-hotel arrival promise. [1] The 2½–4-hour road allowance used here is an editorial starting point that deliberately leaves more room; northern Ubud addresses, the final hotel approach and the day’s conditions can require longer.
Ask your driver to assess both pins and the departure time the day before. Recheck that morning. A mapping estimate is useful for comparison, but it does not include packing, finding the driver, comfort stops or waiting for a room. If the day has a firm event, work backwards from its required arrival time and remove optional stops before removing the delay margin.
The examples below start at 09:00 and assume three hours of base driving. They are arithmetic for comparing plans, not schedules. Loading and check-in take a combined assumed 30 minutes; increase that for your accommodation or mobility needs. Early room access must be confirmed separately.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Time component | Direct move | Move with one GWK visit |
|---|---|---|
| Base driving assumption | 3 hours | 3 hours |
| Additional detour and parking time | None | 45 minutes |
| Comfort stop or lunch | 30 minutes | 45 minutes |
| Attraction visit | None | 2 hours |
| Loading and check-in allowance | 30 minutes | 30 minutes |
| Uncommitted delay allowance | 30 minutes | 30 minutes |
| Total time protected | 4½ hours | 7½ hours |
| Illustrative finish from 09:00 | 13:30 | 16:30 |

A later departure shifts the entire calculation. Starting the longer example at 11:00 produces an 18:30 finish before any further delay, which plainly conflicts with an 18:00 performance. The shorter version leaves room for lunch, settling in and a separately planned evening.
For a wider Bali route, enter your own overnight stops and door-to-door hours in the Itinerary Pace Checker. It flags busy days from your inputs; it does not obtain a live road forecast or confirm attraction timings.
Which stops earn their place on transfer day?
A meal or comfort stop
This is the easiest addition to agree. Ask for somewhere with suitable toilets and practical parking along the driver’s chosen route. Set a rough duration and confirm whether it is included. A quick meal near the receiving hotel may be more useful than a restaurant requiring a separate detour.
GWK Cultural Park as the main visit
GWK’s own ticket page says most visits take two hours and describes an outdoor venue. That is why the longer worked plan gives the park a proper visit window, plus additional driving and parking. Its regular admission, statue tour and buggy options are distinct purchases; check the experience you actually want. [5]
You can compare the park’s own options with GWK entry, guided-tour and buggy options on GetYourGuide. The selected variant controls the guide and buggy inclusions; the listing says the Top of the Statue experience is excluded unless specifically stated. Confirm the meeting time and allow for it in the charter. [6]
A beach stop
Choose this only after confirming the access and how the bags will be handled. Ask about parking-to-beach walking time, steps, toilets and changing facilities. A photograph stop and a swim require different time budgets. Make the beach the main stop if it matters, and leave enough flexibility to abandon it if conditions or access are unsuitable.
Uluwatu Temple
A daytime temple visit is easier to adjust than a fixed performance. If your priority is Kecak, favour a direct hotel move and an evening car arrangement. Adding GWK, a beach, the temple and dinner to one transfer creates several separate arrival commitments. Pick the experience you most want and leave the others for your stay.
Fit Uluwatu Temple and Kecak around arrival
The venue currently publishes temple visiting hours of 07:00–19:00 and international-adult admission of IDR 60,000. Parking and Kecak are separate. These are published figures checked on 2 November 2026; reconfirm before travelling. Wear the required sarong and sash and observe the visitor rules and restricted worship areas. [7]
The venue’s Kecak page lists an 18:00–19:00 performance, with its gate opening at 16:00, and an adult ticket of IDR 150,000. It advises arriving at least an hour early. Check the exact performance time on your selected ticket: general temple hours and show admission are different arrangements. [8]
The Uluwatu Kecak show ticket on GetYourGuide is a performance ticket: temple admission must be bought separately. Its selected time is the show’s starting time, seating is first come, first served, and the listing flags that it is not suitable for wheelchair users. Read the current voucher instructions and restrictions before purchasing. [9]
For an 18:00 booking, ask the driver to plan arrival around 16:30–17:00 or earlier if your voucher requires it. This is a target to agree locally, not a guarantee of seats or sunset conditions. Arrange the collection point after the show, allow time to leave the venue and reach the car, and give the hotel an honest arrival update.
If one driver stays with you from 09:00 until an assumed 20:00 finish, that is 11 hours, including hotel and performance waiting. A ten-hour package would need at least one additional hour on that assumption. Do not label the day “finished at 19:00” simply because that is when the advertised performance ends.
The venue cautions that large bags may not be admitted to the seating area. [8] Drop luggage at the hotel where practical; arrange confirmed storage if your room is not ready. If carrying bags throughout the day, agree their custody with the driver before choosing the stop. Keep essential valuables with you and check your insurance’s conditions for baggage left in vehicles.
Build a complete quote before comparing prices
Send the same request to each provider. Ask for the vehicle model, passenger and luggage allowance, air conditioning, usable seatbelts, fuel, agreed route, waiting, parking, tolls, any different-area drop-off charge and overtime. State the child-restraint or mobility requirements. Get a final total and cancellation terms for the selected date rather than comparing headline amounts with different inclusions.
This example is for two international adults using an agreed charter for the hotel move and an evening temple visit. All transport amounts are invented planning inputs, not market averages or an available offer. The two admission inputs use the published venue rates above. GWK, food and accommodation are excluded.
Swipe sideways to see all columns.
| Line item | Basis | Example total |
|---|---|---|
| Car, driver and fuel | Assumed ten-hour charter | IDR 900,000 |
| Different-area final drop-off | Assumed surcharge; remove if included | IDR 100,000 |
| One extra driver hour | Assumed IDR 100,000 for an 11-hour day | IDR 100,000 |
| Parking and any tolls | Unverified allowance; replace with agreed treatment | IDR 75,000 |
| Temple admission | 2 × published international-adult IDR 60,000 | IDR 120,000 |
| Kecak admission | 2 × published adult IDR 150,000 | IDR 300,000 |
| Subtotal | Before contingency | IDR 1,595,000 |
| Contingency | 10% of subtotal | IDR 159,500 |
| Planning total | For both travellers, under these assumptions | IDR 1,754,500 |
The admission calculation uses the venue’s published rates, not a promise that a reseller will charge the same amount. [7] [8] If your ticket already includes temple admission, remove the separate entry line. If the driver’s rate includes road charges or the final drop-off, remove those lines too.
Another hour at the assumed overtime rate adds IDR 110,000 after the model’s 10% contingency. A direct-transfer quote ends at the hotel unless stated otherwise: add the full cost of a later temple return journey before comparing it with an all-day car. Ask whether a late performance, traffic delay or changed stop changes the charge.
Protect luggage space, access and the final arrival
Count bags as well as people
Send the number and approximate size of suitcases, backpacks, pushchairs, mobility aids and surfboards. Ask how equipment will be carried and whether the luggage compartment can close securely. A vehicle’s advertised seat count does not establish space for the same number of passengers with holiday luggage. For young children, request an appropriate fitted restraint and confirmation before paying.
Check the complete access chain
Discuss getting from the Ubud room to the car, entering the vehicle, every stop and reaching the new room. Specify whether a wheelchair user can transfer to a seat or needs to remain in their chair; ask about the actual equipment and assistance rather than relying on a category label.
The temple lists wheelchairs among its facilities, while the linked show product has a wheelchair restriction. Ask the venue about your precise route and seating needs before committing; the existence of a wheelchair does not confirm a step-free visit to every area. [7] [9]
Keep the last part of the day simple
Confirm check-in hours, luggage storage, late-arrival instructions and how you will obtain a key. Agree a driver meeting point that can be reached safely after dark. At the temple, secure loose belongings, keep away from monkeys and remain behind barriers. [7] If a stop runs late, contact the hotel and shorten the next optional activity.
Save the two pins, booking confirmations and contact numbers offline. For messages and maps, compatible-phone users can compare plans in the Airalo eSIM store and choose Indonesia. Check compatibility, validity and package terms; Airalo has Indonesia plans, but data access should support your saved details. [10]
Check Nyepi before choosing your moving day: visitors must remain indoors, and normal transfers cannot run. [11] Confirm the relevant year’s date and local arrangements before reserving the move.
The message to send before booking
Give the driver a usable request in one message:
We need a one-way hotel move on our travel date, from our Ubud pickup pin to our new hotel’s vehicle entrance. Our group has this many adults and children, these bags and these access or child-seat requirements. We want either a direct journey or this named stop for this duration. Please confirm the vehicle, included hours, waiting, all additional charges and the final drop-off. If we add the evening performance, please quote luggage drop at the hotel and the return to that hotel afterwards.
Attach the addresses and equipment details, then ask for the driver’s timing recommendation. Book the transport and ticket options that fit the agreed plan; keep the confirmation accessible. On departure morning, check that the vehicle and driver match the arrangement and count the bags again when unloading.
Can you do the journey after lunch?
Yes, if the hotel accepts the arrival time and you leave the evening open. It is a poor starting point for several stops followed by a prepaid performance. Rework the whole timetable from the actual departure.
Is an eight- or ten-hour charter automatically enough?
No. Count from the provider’s agreed start to its agreed finish, including all waiting and the final hotel journey. The example above reaches 11 hours with a morning pickup and evening finish.
What if traffic uses the spare time?
Keep the hotel move as the priority. Remove the optional stop, tell the accommodation when to expect you and ask the activity provider about the terms of any booking you may miss. Do not ask a driver to recover the delay by speeding.
Choose a direct car when arriving and settling in are the main goals. Choose a charter when one worthwhile stop justifies the additional time, and plan the evening separately unless the complete day has been agreed.
