Ubud to Canggu: Transfer Options and Traffic Planning

Choose the whole hotel-to-hotel journey, then work backwards from when you want to arrive.

One-way hotel transferCars · apps · shared shuttleExact pins before prices

Original illustration inspired by the journey from Bali’s inland villages towards the coast. It is not a photograph, an exact viewpoint or a route map.

An Ubud to Canggu transfer is easiest to organise once “Ubud” and “Canggu” become two precise addresses. The useful comparison is between the total journeys: getting everyone and their luggage out of the first property, crossing to the coast and reaching the entrance of the next one.

This guide is for a one-way hotel move. It explains when a prebooked car earns its extra cost, when an app booking is a reasonable choice, and how to assess a shared shuttle without overlooking the journeys at either end. The aim is to arrive with enough of the day left to settle in.

Start with the two hotel entrances

Send the driver the full property name, a map pin and the entrance instructions supplied by each accommodation. Ask whether the car can reach reception. If it cannot, agree the meeting place, the walking distance and who will help move the bags before paying.

Keep the full Ubud address too. A property’s marketing name may say Ubud while its entrance is outside the central streets. The pickup address belongs in the quote, especially if the booking page uses a defined service area.

On the coast, distinguish the area names. Berawa is in Tibubeneng; the tourism ministry also identifies Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, Pererenan, Nelayan and Seseh within the wider coastal area visitors associate with Canggu. Echo Beach is also called Batu Mejan. [1] [2]

Turn an area label into a usable drop-off instruction
Address or area labelWhat to confirm
Berawa / TibubenengThe property entrance, including any separate vehicle gate; a nearby beach-club pin is not the hotel address.
Batu Bolong / NelayanThe full street and lane name, plus where the car should stop.
Echo Beach / Batu MejanThe accommodation’s actual vehicle access; do not substitute the beach car park.
Pererenan / SesehThat the quoted Canggu service area includes the exact property and any access arrangement.

If the coastal stay is still undecided, open the map views for Canggu accommodation on Agoda or Canggu stays on Booking.com, then check the shortlisted property’s entrance with the host. Choose a location that suits the places you want to reach during the stay. A small saving on the transfer is less useful if the hotel creates a new car journey every time you go out.

Prebooked private car: arrange the details once

Request the same written specification from your hotel and an independent operator. A useful quote confirms a one-way Ubud pickup and Canggu drop-off, who to contact if the car does not arrive, and the vehicle capacity with your bags loaded. Confirm whether parking, any applicable tolls, child seats, waiting and additional stops are included.

You can compare Ubud–Canggu transport on 12Go. Select a road-only private car or an appropriate shared road service, checking the actual operator and endpoints. The route page also displays ferry combinations; those do not belong in a straightforward hotel transfer across Bali. [3]

The Bali 4U Tours hotel-to-hotel transfer on Viator is a specific alternative covering Ubud and Canggu. Select the correct hotel-to-hotel option; its instructions require pickup confirmation with the operator at least 24 hours before departure. The listing offers infant seats but is marked as not wheelchair accessible. Obtain confirmation of your actual seat or access requirement before booking. [4]

A reserved car gives you an agreed pickup arrangement and space specification. It still travels through the same traffic, so a higher fare cannot guarantee an earlier arrival.

App car: useful when the departure can move

GoCar lists service in Bali, including Gianyar and Tabanan. Grab’s booking process also lets you enter pickup and destination to check a fare and available service. [5] [6]

Check both pins while you still have hotel Wi-Fi. Ask reception where a driver can collect you, then confirm that point in the app. An area appearing in an app is not a promise that a suitable driver will accept your particular trip at your chosen minute.

Enter the correct vehicle category, message the luggage details and check the driver and registration against the booking before getting in. Keep changes and communications in the booking channel. If a driver cannot collect from the property, agree a practical, safe meeting point with reception; moving several suitcases down an unfamiliar road may remove the advantage of the cheaper quote.

GoCar displays the fare before booking; parking and toll charges can be additional. Review the current total and terms rather than treating an earlier screenshot as a reservation. [7]

Shared shuttle: check the first and last legs

Perama currently lists shared services linking Ubud and Canggu, with the Ubud office and a Canggu stop in front of Pepito Raya Canggu as meeting points. Its published baggage allowance is one large suitcase, one cabin bag and one handbag per passenger; other luggage needs agreement. Confirm the Ubud-to-Canggu departure, route and fare for your date. [8]

Price the car or other suitable journey from your hotel to the Ubud meeting point, and from the Canggu stop to the new property. Perama’s published network uses Ubud as a transit point for some journeys involving Canggu. Ask whether the service on your chosen date and in your direction involves a vehicle change or waiting time, and how early to arrive. Avoid buying an onward appointment against the timetable’s arrival estimate.

A shuttle makes the most sense when these extra arrangements are easy. For a pair with heavy cases, a small saving may not justify loading the bags three times. A child-seat requirement needs an explicit operator answer before a shared seat is a usable option.

Schematic comparison: a direct private transfer between the two hotel entrances, versus three shuttle legs from Ubud hotel to meeting point, shared road service to a Canggu stop, and local connection to the exact hotel.
A journey schematic, not a map. Include transport at both ends when comparing a shared service with a confirmed hotel-to-hotel car.

Choose a departure window, then plan backwards

Start by deciding what “arrived” means: bags handed to reception, a room ready, or everyone changed and ready for an activity. These are different targets. Confirm the new property’s check-in time and luggage storage; an earlier arrival is only helpful if there is somewhere comfortable to wait.

A morning departure is a useful starting choice when the new hotel accepts bags. Ask the driver which window suits the exact addresses that day. The tourism ministry warns that roads around Batu Bolong can be busy approaching sunset and during holidays, so an afternoon move deserves particular care if the destination is near the beach. [2]

Choose a window for the day you want, then check local conditions
Departure approachWhy choose it?What to arrange
Early or after breakfastLeaves more of the day available if the journey runs lateDriver availability, completed checkout and permission to leave bags at the new hotel
Around checkoutKeeps the Ubud morning simpleA flexible afternoon; avoid a prepaid activity close to the expected arrival
Later in the dayAllows a longer final Ubud morningBag storage at the first hotel, the new host’s arrival arrangements and a fresh traffic estimate

For a first draft, reserve two to three hours between the hotels and keep the surrounding half-day flexible. This is an editorial planning allowance, not a measured route average or maximum. Remote pickup points, a difficult final approach, stops or disruption can require more. Replace it with the operator’s current advice for your pins, and check conditions again before leaving.

A worked example: aiming to reach the hotel by 14:00

Suppose you choose a 14:00 arrival target, a 90-minute driving allowance, one 15-minute agreed break, 15 minutes for loading and a 30-minute delay margin. These are illustrative inputs, not a forecast for this route.

Ready time = arrival target − delay margin − driving allowance − stops − loading.

In this example, 14:00 − 30 minutes − 90 minutes − 15 minutes − 15 minutes = 11:30 ready for pickup. Loading ends at 11:45; driving and the break would reach the hotel at 13:30, leaving the half-hour margin. If the driver advises allowing 150 minutes for the drive, move the ready time to 10:30 or move the arrival target later.

Illustrative 14:00 arrival target minus 30 minutes arrival margin, 90 minutes driving, 15 minutes for a break and 15 minutes loading means being ready at 11:30. If driving needs 150 minutes, be ready at 10:30.
Original planning arithmetic. Replace the illustrative driving time and other inputs with your driver’s advice and actual arrangements; this is not a journey-time guarantee.

For a shared shuttle, work backwards from its required reporting time at the meeting point instead. Add the hotel-to-office journey and its own margin. You cannot shift the shuttle departure to recover a slow checkout.

Keep the move visible when allocating nights in the Trip Itinerary Planner. The planner organises your stops; enter your own travel allowance. If a surf lesson, restaurant booking or appointment cannot move, putting it on the following day removes the transfer from its critical path.

Check any local access restrictions with both properties. Do not plan an ordinary transfer on Nyepi, when visitors must remain at their accommodation. Confirm the date and arrangements for your travel year. [12]

Compare the whole price, using the same assumptions

Two published prices provide a reference point, not a universal tariff. On 1 November 2026, BaliTaxi advertised Ubud–Canggu at IDR 374,000 for up to three passengers and luggage fitting a normal car, including parking and tolls. Ubud Bali Melali advertised IDR 400,000 per car, with a maximum of four people with luggage. Confirm the actual route, vehicle and inclusions before relying on either amount. [9] [10]

The passenger limits make those different offers. A group of four cannot divide the three-person offer by four without obtaining a new quote. Likewise, an app estimate for a smaller car is not comparable with a prebooked vehicle carrying a pushchair, child seat and several cases.

For each option, write down the fare unit—per person or per vehicle—then add the necessary extras. Include local cars to shuttle stops, any seat or baggage charges, payment fees and a quoted waiting allowance. Ask whether a stop changes a transfer into a timed charter and when overtime starts.

When can a private car cost less than shared seats?

This example uses hypothetical comparison inputs: IDR 450,000 for a private car, IDR 160,000 per shared seat and IDR 100,000 combined for the two local journeys to and from the shuttle. These are not current offers or operator quotes. Assume the same car and local transport can accommodate each group shown, with no other charges.

Swipe sideways to see all columns.

Illustrative whole-group cost in IDR — replace every input with actual quotes
TravellersPrivate car totalShared seats + local journeysDifference
1450,000160,000 + 100,000 = 260,000Shared saves 190,000
2450,000320,000 + 100,000 = 420,000Shared saves 30,000
3450,000480,000 + 100,000 = 580,000Private saves 130,000

The comparison changes at three travellers in this example. For two, the shared option saves only IDR 15,000 each, so the extra handling and fixed departure may matter more than the saving. Different feeder fares, group discounts or vehicle requirements can change the result completely.

If one friend pays for the car, record the agreed contributions in the Group Holiday Cost Splitter. Convert the agreed rupiah costs consistently into a supported currency, such as GBP, before entering them, using your actual transaction rate. The tool calculates shares from your entries and does not convert currencies.

Confirm luggage, child seats and access together

Send one complete passenger-and-bag description: number of adults and children, suitcase sizes, cabin bags, pushchair, mobility equipment and any surfboard length. A photograph of the bags can help the operator answer. Ask for the vehicle category and usable luggage space with every required passenger seat and restraint in place.

The number in “seven-seater” is not a promise of space for seven travellers with suitcases. For example, Bali Baby Hire describes seven-seat vehicles carrying up to four people with luggage because the rear row is folded. It also offers fitted child seats for hotel transfers. Request a route-specific quote and confirm the seat required for each child. [11]

For children, provide age, height and weight, and ask which restraint will be supplied and fitted. Check it before departure. A general “infant seats available” label is a starting point for that conversation, not confirmation that the right seat has been allocated to your booking.

For mobility needs, explain whether the traveller can transfer into an ordinary car seat and how any chair folds. If a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is required, obtain that confirmation explicitly. Check steps and the walking distance at both properties as well as the car itself.

Keep water, necessary medication, a change for a child and charging equipment within reach. Use a proper seat and working seat belt for every passenger. If the agreed configuration does not fit when the car arrives, resolve it before leaving rather than adding bags or people where there is no safe space.

Keep optional stops separate from the transfer

A short agreed toilet or food break can make the move easier. A sightseeing stop needs a different calculation: extra driving, parking, the visit itself and waiting time. Ask for a revised route and written total before adding it.

Choose at most one stop you actively want to visit, and make it the first thing you can drop if the journey slips. A location appearing between the two towns on a map does not establish a convenient vehicle route or a quick visit. Ask the driver about the actual diversion and entrance arrangements.

Agree what happens to the luggage while you are away from the car. Carry passports, money, electronics and essential medication yourself; a closed boot is not a guarantee against loss. For a group already managing children, large bags or a firm check-in arrangement, reaching the new property before doing anything else is often the more useful choice.

Make the booking specific, then keep the pickup simple

Send the operator a message that answers the practical questions in one place:

Please quote a one-way transfer on [date], with pickup at [time] from [Ubud hotel name, entrance pin and access notes] to [Canggu hotel name, entrance pin and access notes]. We are [adults and children, including each child’s age, height and weight] with [bag sizes, pushchair, board or mobility equipment]. Please confirm the vehicle, suitable restraints, total price and currency, included charges, waiting and cancellation terms, and any extra cost for [agreed stop].

Before checkout, save the confirmation, contact details and both pins offline. Charge the phone, complete payment or confirm the agreed payment method, and ask reception to help locate the car if necessary. Give the new property a flexible arrival window and update it if the road journey changes substantially.

Reliable mobile data helps with driver messages and the final address. If you need a data plan, Airalo’s eSIM store has Indonesia options; check that your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible, and read the selected plan’s activation rules. Retain an offline copy of the addresses too. [13] [14]

Before getting out in Canggu, check every seat and the luggage compartment, confirm that you are at the correct entrance, and keep the receipt. With the bags handed over, the transfer is complete—and the rest of the day can stay pleasantly uncommitted.
