A good Thailand itinerary is not the route with the most place names. It is the route that gives each destination enough usable time and keeps major transfers within the pace you actually want.
Count nights, door-to-door transfer time and weather-sensitive days before adding another stop.
How to choose an itinerary
Begin with:
- Total usable days after international travel.
- The number of regions you want to combine.
- Preferred pace: highlights, balanced or slow travel.
- Domestic-flight, train, road and ferry tolerance.
- The season for the northern and coastal parts of the route.
- A buffer before the international departure.
Two-week routes
Two weeks can combine Bangkok, one northern base and one southern region, but the trip becomes busy when every stage requires a flight or ferry. An alternative is Bangkok plus Northern Thailand, or Bangkok plus one beach region, with more time in each place.

Longer Thailand routes
Three or four weeks creates room for slower travel and more than one coastal base. It still does not remove the need to choose. Repeated one- and two-night stops can make a long trip feel more rushed than a shorter, simpler route.
Add destinations because they create a different experience, not because they are close enough to fit on a map.
