THAILAND BY MONTH · MARCH
Thailand in March
Choose the coast, pace the city days and keep northern air quality separate from the sunshine forecast.
AI-generated conceptual scene, not a photograph of a named beach or a weather forecast.
Thailand in March is not one uniform holiday proposition. The coast may be the main attraction, while a northern extension needs a different set of questions and Bangkok benefits from a slower daily rhythm. Getting those decisions right matters more than finding a single reassuring weather symbol for the whole country.
This guide begins with the choice of trip, then works through regional climate, suitable bases, transport and what to reserve. Its route examples are deliberately selective. You do not need to include every famous region to make a first visit feel complete, and you should not have to spend the holiday recovering from the itinerary.
The practical aim is a holiday that still works when a boat outing moves or a traveller needs a quiet afternoon. Historical weather information provides the background; current local advice supplies the final check. Together with clear booking terms and a comfortable place to stay, that is a stronger foundation than a promise of perfect March conditions.
Best starting plan
City + one coast
Fewer transfers leave room for a changed excursion.
Separate decision
Northern air quality
A dry forecast is not proof of clear air.
Daily rhythm
Early outing, real break
Choose a comfortable return route to the room.
Before departure
Protect the final link
Do not rely on the last possible ferry connection.
Thailand in March: choose the trip before the route
The strongest reason to go
March is a good candidate for a holiday built around the southern coast, with a smaller amount of city sightseeing arranged around the heat. It is less convincing as a month for rushing between every famous region. The useful question is not whether Thailand is open for business, but whether the experiences you most want suit the conditions you are likely to encounter. A beach holiday, an outdoor photography trip in the north and a fortnight of urban walking have very different dependencies.
Start by naming the two things that would make the holiday worthwhile even if everything else changed. Perhaps that means an unhurried week near the sea and excellent food in Bangkok. Those priorities suggest a simple city-and-coast route. Conversely, a trip whose main purpose is distant mountain views needs much more attention to air quality and visibility before northern accommodation becomes non-refundable. This guide’s destination choices are research-led judgements based on climate, access and flexibility, not a ranking from personal visits or a survey of every resort.
Who should make a different choice?
Travellers who dislike sustained heat should compare another month rather than assuming a few extra bottles of water will solve the problem. March sits within Thailand’s broadly defined hot season, although the precise conditions vary substantially by region and year. The Thai Meteorological Department describes that season as approximately mid-February to mid-May. That is background for planning, not a promise about a particular week’s temperature. [2]
Similarly, a family whose holiday depends on children spending most of the day outdoors should value shade, cooling and short journeys more highly than an impressive list of excursions. A couple seeking a quiet resort can use March very differently from friends who want long urban days followed by late nights. Neither itinerary is wrong; the mistake is borrowing somebody else’s pace without allowing for your own limits.
Weather in March: what the numbers actually say
Regional normals, not a daily forecast
The table uses the 1991–2020 normal columns in TMD’s February–April bulletin. It deliberately does not use that document’s predictions for 2026 as forecasts for a future holiday. Average daily highs and lows describe a historical pattern; they are not the hottest and coldest temperatures possible. Likewise, a monthly rainfall total cannot tell you which afternoon will be wet. [1]
| Region (not a resort) | Mean daily high | Mean daily low | Mean monthly rain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bangkok and vicinity | 34.6 °C | 26.0 °C | 48.6 mm |
| Northern Thailand | 36.1 °C | 20.6 °C | 32.4 mm |
| Eastern Thailand | 33.9 °C | 25.0 °C | 66.5 mm |
| Southern east coast | 32.8 °C | 23.7 °C | 89.8 mm |
| Southern west coast | 34.3 °C | 23.9 °C | 103.6 mm |
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways; the rest of the page stays in place.
Historical averages, not a forecast. TMD tables checked 05 October 2026. [1]
For practical purposes, the table helps you compare types of trip rather than select a guaranteed sunny hotel. Bangkok’s warm nights make the room’s cooling arrangements relevant, while a lower northern night-time average does not cancel hot daytime sightseeing. The two southern coastal rows cover broad regions. They are not measurements from a particular beach on Phuket, Koh Samui or Koh Tao, so avoid transferring a regional decimal straight into a resort-level promise.
Read a forecast at the right scale
Several days before an outdoor booking, replace the monthly overview with a current local forecast. For a boat trip, read the marine warning as well as the rainfall icon. A bright morning on shore does not establish conditions along a crossing, and a forecast shower does not by itself prove that a licensed operator will cancel. Ask what information the operator uses and what happens when a route changes. TMD’s live forecasts and warnings are the appropriate starting point. [3]
Do not give equal weight to every weather app simply because they disagree. First check that they show the same place, date, update time and kind of measurement. A provincial forecast, a coastal observation and a seven-day prediction for an airport answer different questions. For a normal holiday, a modest plan that can change is more useful than repeatedly refreshing an increasingly detailed-looking forecast months ahead.
Which coast makes the better March base?
Andaman options: choose access before scenery
Phuket, the Krabi coast and Koh Lanta are sensible places to investigate for a sea-led March itinerary. They offer different starting points rather than one interchangeable beach experience. Choose a mainland or road-accessible base when easy arrival, restaurant choice and the ability to change plans matter most. Choose a more involved island stay only when that particular place is worth the extra transfer and the potential need for a buffer before flying home.
For example, a traveller arriving tired after a long-haul flight may prefer to reach one comfortable hotel and stay there for several nights. Someone already acclimatised after a city stay may be happier adding a ferry. This is a logistical distinction, not a declaration that one island has better weather. Compare the actual arrival airport, the onward journey and the hotel’s location before treating two room prices as equivalent.
The Gulf is a real alternative
Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao should not be dismissed simply because a March beach article starts with the Andaman coast. TMD’s southern east-coast normal is another useful comparison, but it cannot identify the calmest swimming bay for your dates. Match the island to the holiday: an easier resort-based stay, a quieter locality with carefully checked transport, or a trip centred on a particular activity. Then examine the relevant crossing and local conditions. [1]
For a first visit of ten to fourteen nights, there is usually little benefit in sampling both southern coasts merely to tick them off. Changing coasts creates another travel day and more interdependent bookings. A better use of that time may be one additional unhurried day in the place you already chose. The exception is a specific interest strong enough to justify the move, with its travel costs and lost leisure time acknowledged.
Compare like with like
When looking at Krabi accommodation on Booking.com, check whether the property is in town, near a beach or somewhere reached by boat. A destination label is too broad to establish how the holiday will work. Ask about the final approach with luggage, the distance to the food you want and whether a steep access road changes the meaning of a seemingly short walk.
Bangkok without turning the visit into an endurance test
Design two short outings, not one long march
A useful March city day has an outdoor priority, a sheltered interval and an evening chosen for enjoyment rather than obligation. Put the sight you most want to see in the first outing. Afterwards, leave room for lunch, an indoor visit or a proper rest instead of linking another exposed area simply because it looks nearby on a map. Travel time, waiting and the walk from a station all belong in the schedule.
The important saving is often in unnecessary movement. Group places by neighbourhood and decide where the day ends before booking a timed activity. A hotel that is convenient for your actual plans can outperform a grander property requiring a long round trip each afternoon. At the same time, proximity should not override sleep: a quiet room and reliable cooling may matter more than being directly above the busiest evening street.
Give the arrival day permission to be small
For an early international arrival, do not assume the hotel room will be ready immediately. Ask about luggage storage and early check-in arrangements before promising yourself an afternoon nap. Keep the first day free of expensive fixed-time commitments. A meal, a short local walk and organising tomorrow’s transport can be an entirely successful start, especially when the flight has disrupted sleep.
Use Bangkok hotel searches on Agoda to compare practical locations, then inspect the specific room type and cancellation deadline. The cheapest result is not automatically the least expensive stay once transport and unsuitable arrival arrangements are included. Keep a screenshot or saved copy of the terms that applied when you paid; a general hotel description is not the same as your reservation conditions.

Northern Thailand: keep the air-quality decision separate
A dry forecast can still be the wrong signal
A northern stay should not be approved solely because the rainfall column is low. The FCDO highlights air pollution and regional smoke haze, including in Chiang Mai, and notes the implications for people with existing health conditions. That makes current air-quality information a separate decision input from temperature and rain. This article does not assign a probability of clean air to an individual March week. [4]
Check a relevant monitoring station through Air4Thai and look at the timestamp, pollutant and scale. A number shown as a concentration is not interchangeable with an air-quality index, and different index systems can use different bands. One airport or city-centre reading also cannot fully describe a mountain excursion. Use official guidance and personal medical advice where needed, rather than deciding that a view looks clear enough from a hotel photograph. [5]
Book the north around what remains enjoyable
A flexible cultural stay is different from a trip built entirely around long hikes and distant panoramas. Identify what you would genuinely enjoy if outdoor plans had to shrink, and whether the accommodation supports that alternative. An indoor café is not an adequate substitute for a once-in-a-lifetime mountain trip when the mountain trip was the whole purpose of travelling. In that case, another season may serve the goal better.
Avoid creating a false choice between ignoring conditions and abandoning Thailand. A city-and-coast itinerary is a legitimate complete holiday. Alternatively, leave the northern component changeable until nearer departure, recognising that flexibility may cost more. Compare the extra refundable rate with the money at risk across the whole itinerary, including flights and tours that a hotel refund alone will not recover.

Three March itineraries with realistic nights
Seven nights: protect the short holiday
With seven nights, choose one main base and perhaps a brief arrival or departure stay where flight logistics require it. A week near the coast can contain a boat outing, a local food day, a rest day and time to change the order. It does not need three islands. For a short break, each hotel move removes a large share of the usable holiday, particularly when checkout and check-in do not align.
Count the nights on the ground, not the number printed on a flight-inclusive package. An overnight flight may consume a calendar day without adding a hotel night in Thailand. Write down the landing date, the first room you can actually use and the final airport journey. This simple exercise often reveals that a supposedly spacious itinerary contains only four or five genuinely free days.
Ten nights: Bangkok plus one coast
A practical starting model is three nights in Bangkok, six nights in one coastal area and a final night near the departure city when the flight arrangement warrants it. This is an editorial example, not a fixed formula. The coastal block can shift earlier or later according to available flights, but avoid adding a separate island because there seems to be an unused square on the calendar.
Before booking, compare Bangkok–Krabi transport on 12Go and check the complete journey rather than the headline fare. Some search results are different modes with very different time costs. Read departure points, baggage provisions and the arrival location. The purpose of comparing is to choose a manageable transfer, not to assume that every result is a direct substitute for a flight.
Fourteen nights: add depth, not a third climate gamble
For fourteen nights, consider three nights in Bangkok, nine nights divided between no more than two nearby coastal bases, and two nights reserved for the return city or another interest that fits the route. Another sound option is four city nights and ten in one coastal region. Both approaches leave room for an excursion to move without dismantling the entire booking sequence.
Travellers who specifically want the north can replace part of the coastal block, subject to their air-quality assessment. They should not simply insert northern flights into an already full plan. Every addition needs a subtraction: fewer hotel moves, fewer scheduled tours or less geographical reach. An itinerary is credible when it states what you will leave for another visit.
| Time available | Suggested allocation | What keeps it workable |
|---|---|---|
| 7 nights | One main coastal base | Add only the arrival or departure stop the flights require. |
| 10 nights | 3 Bangkok + 6 coast + 1 departure | A planning model, not a transport timetable. |
| 14 nights | 3 Bangkok + 9 coastal region + 2 flexible/return | No more than two nearby coastal bases; choose the final nights to fit the flight. |
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways; the rest of the page stays in place.
Beaches, boats and activities worth reserving
Reserve the experience, not the weather
An advance reservation can secure a particular operator or limited-capacity activity, but it cannot secure sea conditions. For a March boat day, read the cancellation policy, the alternative itinerary wording and the pickup location before paying. Ask whether an operator cancellation leads to a refund, a different date or a substitute outing. Then decide whether that substitute would still be something you would choose voluntarily.
Compare Krabi activities on GetYourGuide when the listing helps clarify equipment, pickup and the cancellation deadline. Avoid evaluating outings only by the number of islands in the title. Time on the boat, group size, the difficulty of boarding and the availability of suitable life jackets may be more relevant to your group than an extra stop on a promotional map.
Keep a genuinely appealing land-based alternative
A flexible day should contain an option you actually like, not a punishment for imperfect weather. Food, a cooking activity, a neighbourhood visit or a relaxed hotel afternoon can all work when they fit your interests. However, check what is indoors and what still relies on an outdoor journey. A market-based class may remain partly exposed, while a scenic café may require a long drive.
For the city portion, compare Bangkok activities on Viator and choose by format as well as subject. A private departure, a shorter duration or a convenient meeting point can solve a real March planning problem. No marketplace listing replaces a safety assessment, and an affiliate link here is not a claim that every operator on that platform has been independently inspected.
Swimming is a local decision
Follow beach flags, posted restrictions and lifeguard instructions rather than the month’s reputation. The FCDO warns about strong currents and advises care with swimming and water activities. This guidance applies even when the sky is clear. A pool at the accommodation is a useful alternative, but families should still check supervision, depth changes and access rather than treating the word resort as a safety certification. [6]
What a March holiday might cost
Use a model before collecting quotes
The following example is a budgeting exercise prepared on 05 October 2026, not a survey of current March prices. It is for two adults sharing one room for ten nights, using deliberately rounded allowances. International flights, travel insurance, visa costs where applicable and major shopping are excluded. Replace every line with a quote appropriate to your dates before deciding that the trip is affordable.
| Budget item | Calculation / unit | Assumed amount |
|---|---|---|
| Room allowance | 10 nights × THB 1,800 | THB 18,000 |
| Food allowance | 10 budgeted days × THB 1,100 | THB 11,000 |
| Transport allowance | Whole-route assumption | THB 8,000 |
| Activities allowance | Whole-trip assumption | THB 6,000 |
| Unallocated reserve | Kept available | THB 6,000 |
| Model total | Before international flights and stated exclusions | THB 49,000 |
On a small screen, swipe the table sideways; the rest of the page stays in place.
All amounts are assumed planning inputs dated 05 October 2026, not checked supplier prices. Replace them with current quotes for the exact group, room and dates.
The value of this calculation lies in exposing assumptions. A more expensive room may reduce local transport spending, while an apparently cheap island stay may add transfers and extra nights near the airport. Calculate the whole route first. Afterwards, decide whether to reduce the number of destinations, change the room standard or travel for fewer nights. Cutting the contingency to make the total look attractive does not reduce the possibility of an additional expense.
Compare the cancellation premium honestly
Suppose a refundable room costs more than a fixed reservation. The question is not whether the flexible option is always worth it, but how much money and freedom it protects in this particular route. If several non-refundable flights depend on the same plan, a flexible room alone buys limited freedom. Conversely, one changeable coastal block can be valuable when the rest of the trip has few moving parts.
Search Phuket accommodation on Agoda using your actual occupancy and dates. Do not compare a room-only headline with another rate that includes breakfast, taxes or a different bedding arrangement. For a family, check the permitted ages and number of occupants. For couples, check whether the price shown is for the bed type and cancellation terms you would actually accept.
Booking order and transfer buffers
Fix the expensive dependencies first
Begin with the international flights and the broad route, then choose accommodation that works with the arrival and departure times. Next confirm the major transfer and only then add timed excursions. Reversing that order can leave you with an attractive activity ticket and no sensible way to reach the meeting point. For March, a final night close to your departure airport can be more useful than one last ambitious island outing.
A buffer is not a universal number of hours. Separate tickets, checked luggage, a ferry connection and the consequences of missing a flight all change the decision. Where failure would be costly, staying on the departure side the previous night is an option worth pricing. Treat the journey between two airports as a separate transfer, not as an ordinary connection within one terminal.
Check the last mile of a combined ticket
A ticket advertised with a destination name may end at a pier, a town office, a bus terminal or the hotel itself. Read the arrival point and the luggage terms before assuming the final transfer is included. With island journeys, a cheap headline can cease to be attractive once an extra car, a long wait or an awkward arrival time is added.
For a Gulf route, compare Surat Thani–Koh Samui combinations on 12Go. Check whether the search starts at the airport, railway station or town, since those are not interchangeable starting points. Save the operator’s meeting instructions offline and keep a contact method available. A booking confirmation is useful only when everyone can identify where the journey actually begins.
Packing for hot days and occasional disruption
Choose a small wardrobe that supports the plan
Build the bag around breathable clothing, a respectable temple outfit, secure walking footwear and something that handles an unexpected shower. Avoid packing separate outfits for every imagined activity. Instead, arrange one laundry opportunity and keep enough dry clothing available that a delayed wash does not force another shopping trip. Shoes should be tested before travel, especially when the itinerary involves long walks between transport and sights.
A small day bag needs space for drinking water, sun protection and essential medication without becoming uncomfortable. Compare packable sun hats on Amazon UK by fit and coverage rather than appearance alone. This is a category search, not a claim that every listed item meets a particular standard. Read the manufacturer’s description and choose equipment suited to the person wearing it.
Protect the things that would interrupt the holiday
Keep travel documents, payment cards, medicine and one change of clothes accessible during transfers. A waterproof pouch is useful only when its closure is secure and it is suitable for the intended exposure. Test it at home with something expendable rather than discovering a leak with the passport inside. Do not assume a bag described as water-resistant can be submerged safely.
Connectivity is another practical dependency. Check Airalo’s available Thailand eSIM options against your phone’s compatibility, activation conditions and the package’s actual services. Some plans are data-only, so do not assume an ordinary local calling facility is included. [7] Download important addresses and tickets before leaving reliable internet; a second copy is useful even when you expect excellent coverage.
Health, comfort and responsible choices
Respond to heat instead of negotiating with it
Resting is part of the itinerary, not a sign that the day has failed. Seek shade and cooling when someone becomes uncomfortable, and take worsening symptoms seriously. NHS guidance describes confusion, seizures and loss of consciousness as signs needing urgent medical help in the context of heat illness. Do not wait for a particular pattern of sweating to decide that a person is seriously unwell. [8]
Before departure, seek individual travel-health advice where appropriate, especially when medical conditions, pregnancy or a child’s needs change the risk assessment. Keep prescribed treatments and relevant information accessible. This guide is travel planning rather than personalised medical advice, and it has not undergone independent clinical review. The right itinerary is one the group can enjoy without repeatedly overriding the needs of its least comfortable member.
Make the easy ethical choices first
Treat temples and neighbourhoods as living places rather than scenery provided for visitors. Follow local dress and photography instructions, ask before close portraits and avoid blocking worshippers or access routes. On the coast, leave wildlife encounters and environmental restrictions to properly authorised arrangements rather than assuming that a tour’s popularity proves its acceptability. An attractive description is not evidence that an interaction benefits the animals involved.
Carry less disposable clutter where practical, but do not compromise safe drinking water or essential hygiene for appearances. Refuse unnecessary packaging when convenient and use legitimate refill arrangements where you can establish that they are suitable. Small decisions are easier to maintain than elaborate holiday rules that collapse at the first transfer. Responsible travel should make the trip more considerate, not create another exhausting checklist.
Make an ordinary coastal day worth staying for
Do not outsource the whole holiday to excursions
Before choosing a beach base, sketch one day without a prepaid tour. Where would you eat breakfast, take a comfortable walk, find shade and have dinner? A property can look excellent in isolation while making that ordinary day awkward. Check the immediate surroundings rather than relying on the destination’s reputation. This is especially valuable when the plan includes six or more nights in one place.
For travellers staying around Phuket, compare land-based Phuket activities on GetYourGuide only where an outing adds something you would not otherwise experience. Look for a useful format, such as a shorter cultural visit or a convenient meeting point, instead of filling the calendar automatically. Leave some room for a recommendation discovered locally, provided its access, terms and suitability can be checked properly.
Preserve the reason for choosing the coast
A coastal stay does not need a daily itinerary to justify its length. Time to read, share an unhurried meal or return to a favourite local place can be part of the purpose. Agree on that expectation before booking, particularly when one traveller enjoys constant movement and another prefers stillness. A small amount of deliberate unplanned time can prevent the holiday from becoming a negotiation about what counts as doing enough.
Pros and cons of a March trip
What works well
The main appeal is the ability to build a substantial southern holiday without treating the entire country as one weather zone. A city-and-coast route can combine food, culture and time outside without excessive hotel changes. For travellers who accept a slower daily rhythm, March offers a clear reason to prioritise the experiences that matter and leave the rest for another visit.
A longer coastal block also makes the itinerary less brittle. An outing can move, a tired traveller can rest and a different beach can be considered without changing the next hotel reservation. This is not a promise of perfect conditions; it is a way of making ordinary changes less disruptive. The strongest March plan has enough space to benefit from that flexibility.
What deserves caution
Heat can make ambitious walking schedules unpleasant, and northern air quality needs separate attention. Coastal conditions remain local and changeable, while transport arrangements can consume more time than the map suggests. March is therefore less suitable for travellers expecting mild weather everywhere, guaranteed mountain visibility or a risk-free sequence of separate ferry and flight tickets.
The other disadvantage is psychological: a favourable seasonal reputation can encourage overconfidence. Travellers may book more outdoor commitments than they would in a supposedly less reliable month. Resist the temptation to fill every day simply because a climate chart looks promising. A lightly committed itinerary can be more valuable than one packed with non-refundable plans.
Common mistakes to avoid
Using the country name as a forecast
Do not turn one weather-app search for Thailand into a decision about every stop. Specify the actual coast, city and activity, then check the appropriate information nearer departure. For the north, include air quality; for an exposed excursion, include the marine or storm warning. The holiday becomes easier to evaluate once the vague question about the whole country is replaced by a small number of concrete decisions.
Confusing a cheap room with a cheap itinerary
Before paying for an attractive rate, add the airport journey, onward transfer and realistic local transport. Check whether the area suits the time of day you expect to eat and return. A remote hotel can be excellent when that remoteness is the point, but frustrating when it was an accidental consequence of sorting a search page by lowest price.
Treating the departure day as spare sightseeing time
Leave the final journey appropriately protected, especially when it involves separate operators. Keep luggage organised and avoid a last-minute water activity that depends on a boat returning promptly. The final morning does not need to prove that you used every minute of the trip. Reaching the flight without a rushed sequence of avoidable decisions is a worthwhile outcome.
March questions answered
Is March a good month for a first Thailand holiday?
It can be, particularly for travellers who want a southern coastal stay and a manageable amount of city sightseeing. Plan for heat rather than copying a winter walking itinerary. Keep northern air-quality checks separate from the weather forecast, and select one main coast rather than trying to see every region. The answer depends on the experiences that would make your own holiday worthwhile.
Is Phuket or Koh Samui better in March?
Neither is automatically better for every traveller. Compare the accommodation area, arrival route, activities and the level of movement you want. The climate table provides broad coastal context but cannot identify a guaranteed sunny or safe-swimming resort. A destination that is simpler to reach and more enjoyable during an unplanned rest day may be the stronger personal choice.
Does it rain all day in March?
A monthly normal cannot answer that for a particular date. Rain may be brief, prolonged or absent during an individual stay, and different areas can experience different conditions. Avoid both guarantees: that rain never matters in March, or that a rain icon means an entire holiday day is lost. Use current forecasts when making immediate plans.
Should I cancel Chiang Mai because of smoke?
Make the decision using current official information, your health and the purpose of the visit rather than a blanket rule. A flexible cultural stay and a strenuous outdoor trip have different requirements. Seek medical advice when a condition increases your vulnerability, and retain changeable arrangements when the trip would lose its purpose under poor air quality.
How far ahead should I book a boat excursion?
There is no single deadline that fits every operator and date. Reserve earlier when a specific experience matters and the cancellation conditions are acceptable; otherwise retain some freedom within the coastal stay. Confirm what happens if the operator cancels or substitutes a route. A reservation secures the booking terms, not the weather or sea state.
Is March always cheaper than the winter months?
This article does not establish a nationwide price comparison. Actual dates, occupancy, room type, holidays and the route can outweigh the month label. Compare equivalent live quotes and read the inclusions. The budget table is an illustrative planning calculation, not evidence of a measured March discount or a prediction of future hotel prices.
Can I see Bangkok, Chiang Mai and two islands in ten nights?
It may be possible to assemble transport that connects them, but that does not make it a comfortable holiday. Each move takes time and creates another dependency. For ten nights, Bangkok and one coastal area is the more forgiving starting point. Add a region only by removing something else, with the effect on rest and transfer days made explicit.
What should be checked just before leaving?
Review the current travel advice, entry requirements for your passport, local forecasts, relevant air-quality information and the latest transport meeting instructions. Confirm that the first room can accommodate your arrival arrangements. Save important details offline and check the final airport journey again. These checks are more useful than adding another distant day trip at the last minute.
The March recommendation
Choose March for a holiday that gives the coast enough time and the city enough breathing space. Start with the route you would still enjoy after one cancelled excursion or one tired afternoon. Then book accommodation around that route, not around the largest advertised discount. This keeps the practical structure of the holiday aligned with the reason you wanted to go.
For many first-time visitors, Bangkok plus one southern region is the strongest starting point. Northern Thailand remains a separate, condition-sensitive choice rather than a compulsory addition. Keep weather, air quality, safety and booking terms as distinct checks, and let each answer the question it is actually designed to answer. A smaller, well-chosen March itinerary can deliver considerably more enjoyment than a hurried tour of the whole map.
