What should I pack for a Phuket boat trip?
Carry sun protection, a rash vest, drinking water when permitted, swimwear, a dry layer, essential medication, a small dry bag and a waterproof phone pouch. Leave valuables at the hotel when they are not needed.
Which day trip is best for a non-swimmer?
Phang Nga Bay is usually the strongest choice because the main value is scenery and guided canoeing. A private or big-boat product also gives more control than a snorkelling-heavy speedboat schedule.
The two Phuket day trips I would prioritise
For a first Phuket trip, choose Phang Nga Bay and one clear-water day. Phang Nga supplies the limestone-and-canoeing experience that cannot be recreated by another beach afternoon. The second choice depends on the group: Phi Phi for iconic scenery, Racha and Coral for a more straightforward island day, or Surin in season for confident snorkellers who accept the distance.
Do not use holiday success as a contest to collect islands. One well-chosen excursion, enough recovery time and the confidence to change plans in poor weather will usually produce a better trip than three consecutive twelve-hour tours.
